One of our South Australian projects this year is to support the Livelihood Program in the North Luzon area of the Philippines. Here, Rev. Andy Tiver is working with our partner church in providing new and more reliable ways for indigenous people to provide income for themselves and their families. This enables these communities in remote mountainous areas to better sustain themselves.
With guest blogger UCA president Rev. Alistair Macrae on reason no. 16 of 21 to register now for Lent Event 2011. Check out the Act Reflect Connect blog for the full series. Lent Event as a gift to the Uniting Church and for activistsOne of my constant struggles since becoming a disciple of Jesus has been finding sustainable spiritual practices. Since becoming ‘a professional Christian’ (in my case, a Minister) where the job actually requires varying levels of bible study, worship, prayer, Christian fellowship it has been easy to think that such routines will keep me in constant relationship with God, full of the joy of the gospel, able to access the strength and comfort of God in tough times. Sadly that is not the case. By nature more of a twitchy activist rather than a natural contemplative I’ve looked for ways that ground me in prayer but which also accommodate my, at times pathological need, to ‘do something’. Which is why I’m excited by the prospect of participating for the first time in Lent Event this year. |
