At an event level:

Become a Volunteer:

If you’re available on Saturday from 11.30am – 5pm, you could help at one of these activity spaces. There’s no pre-event preparation required other than your registration paperwork. Afternoon tea is provided; just bring a water bottle, hat and a smile.

Create: crafts, science experiments, making...

Your role is to assist on a craft station by helping children with their making and keeping materials organised for the three sessions. You would be working with the experienced Create Coordinators who will provide all the necessary materials.

Play: carnival rides, wide games, sports...

Your role is to help out on a carnival ride for the three sessions by keeping children safe, lining up helpfully and enjoying themselves. The Play Coordinator will arrange all the rides and activities.

Explore: activities about Christian prayer, mission, stories and church...

Your role is to run an activity station which requires talking with the children about the station topic and engaging them in the activity so that they can explore faith for themselves. All materials will be provided by the Explore Coordinator.

If you’re available for a 3 hour shift or all weekend (5pm Friday – 5pm Sunday) you might consider joining one of these KCO support teams. There’s no pre-event preparation required other than your registration paperwork. If you’re staying all weekend the cost is $50 for food and accommodation is free.

Admin team:

Your role will be directed by the Admin Coordinator, and include tasks like being on the admin desk to answer enquiries, store and sort lost property, etc. Between 9am-1pm on the Saturday morning you will be helping with registrations, which will be explained in a briefing by the Registrations Coordinator at KCO.

Merchandise team:

Your role is to sell KCO merchandise and other knick-knacks to campers at specific times during the KCO program. You need to be good at handling money, working under pressure and interacting with children. You will work with the Merchandise Coordinator.

If you’re available all weekend (5pm Friday – 5pm Sunday) you could join one of these KCO event teams. There’s no pre-event preparation required other than your registration paperwork. The cost is $50 for food and accommodation is free.

Chaplains:

Your role on the weekend is to chat with the kids and leaders and answer any questions they have. These may include questions about life, faith and the church. Chaplains are based in a cabin and will have a themed activity there to encourage the campers to visit and chat with the chaplains. A Chaplain Coordinator oversees and supports this team.

Logistics team:

Your role on the weekend will be directed by the Logistics Coordinator and will include setting up and packing down tents, bunting, signs, specific areas, flags, kitchen setup, etc. This team requires physical strength and the occasional D-I-Y skill.

KCO crew:

Your role will be directed by the Crew Coordinator to assist the logistics team and support the Program Coordinators. This includes tasks like traffic direction in the KCO site and parking areas, assisting with the set up for Create and Explore, “ushering” people into place at venues, collecting offering, and distributing communion if required. KCO Crew are known for their great attitude, servant hearts and willingness to pitch in and help wherever needed.

Security team:

Your role is to ensure a safe and secure site which involves being on security shifts throughout the weekend, including overnight. You will be directed by the Security Coordinator.

At a group level:
  • Become a leader
  • Become a cook
  • Help with the administration of forms, screenings and finances prior to KCO
  • Drive kids to and from KCO or organise a car pool for your church
  • Set up tents and pull them down
  • Donate food for the weekend (see the cook or coordinator for what they need)
  • Lend tents, shade shelters tables, BBQs, camping gear
  • Sponsor a child to go from your church
  • Go with a child from your church with another group if there is not enough people to go to KCO from your Church
For another Church (especially rural church):
  • Sponsor a child to go to KCO
  • Lend tents, shade shelters tables, BBQs, camping gear
  • Put up tents for country groups
  • Deliver meals to a group so that they don't have to bring lots of cooking equipment
