At the Presbytery Synod AGM in 2010, when it was decided to adopt the national Lent Event program, Presbytery and Synod of SA also approved an annual appeal for a Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC) project in South Australia during Reconciliation Week to replace the UAICC component which had been part of the previous SA Lenten Appeal.
Many Aboriginal young people face enormous challenges, including a very high rate of youth suicide, with its resulting grief and trauma. The Congress Elders in SA say that supporting Aboriginal young people is the highest priority of their ministry.
The 2012 Pilgrimage of Healing Appeal will support:
- Youth Leadership programs
- National Youth Gatherings
- State Youth Camps
- Local church programs
